Ghosts Season 4 Casts Isaac’s Foe Patience, Sam’s Absentee Father

We finally have a face to put to the spirit that dragged Isaac into the dirt on Ghosts .

Mary Holland ( The Big Door Prize, Veep ) will recur during the upcoming fourth season as the Puritan ghost Patience, it was announced during the show’s San Diego Comic-Con panel on Saturday.

Additionally, Dean Norris ( United States of Al, Breaking Bad ) will guest-star as the estranged father of Rose McIver’s character, Samantha.

As mentioned last season, Patience died in the late 1600s and was eventually abandoned by Isaac underground when he sneezed and let go of her hand, causing her be lost in the dirt since 1895. As a result, she’s become “a feral creature,” per the official character description, who took revenge on Isaac in the Season 3 finale, dragging him back to her lair. In the Season 4 premiere, “we will meet Patience and find out her plans for our dear Isaac.”

During her living years, Patience “was exceedingly severe and judgmental even by Puritan standards. As such, she was expelled from her village for ‘being a bit too much,'” the description adds.

Sam’s dad Frank, meanwhile, is described as “kindly and well-meaning,” but he and his daughter share a troubled history.

“Sam’s dad Frank arrives at Woodstone for his first visit in years, along with his new girlfriend,” the official release touts. “Frank and Sam have struggled to stay close since Frank divorced Sam’s mom when Sam was 10. On the surface, Frank and Sam are cordial, but deep-down Sam resents her father for being largely absent from her life. After decades of insisting ‘everything was fine,’ Sam is finally compelled to confront these feelings when a new ghost at Woodstone forces her into an awkward conversation with her dad.”

Co-showrunner Joe Port previously teased to TVLine that we might see some new relatives for Jay and Sam next season. “We want to meet their families and really get to know them a little bit more,” he said.

Ghosts Season 4 premieres Thursday, Oct. 17 at 8:30/7:30c on CBS.
