DENVER (KDVR) — Two teens were seriously hurt with gunshot wounds after a large gathering in Aurora led to an argument and a shooting early Saturday, according to police.

The Aurora Police Department said just after midnight, officers were called to a shooting call in the 800 block of South Naples Way.

There were reports that “a large gathering of people” moved to the street and an argument broke out.

The argument escalated and gunfire was exchanged, police said.

A teenage boy was found with a serious gunshot wound and taken to a local hospital. A second boy arrived at a local hospital shortly after. He was also suffering from a serious gunshot wound.

Police said officers found a juvenile male on the scene carrying a weapon. He was arrested, but his involvement in the shooting is unknown.

    Neighbors concerned about increased violence

Neighbors in the area told FOX31 they have noticed an increase in violent activity.

Bob and Margaret Rosso, who live across the street from where it happened, said they awoke after midnight to noise out in the street.

“I got up to look out the window and she was in bed and said, ‘Don’t look out the window.’ And then they started shooting and then I dove, literally dove, back into bed because I didn’t know which direction the shots were going to come from or go to,” neighbor Bob Rosso said.

APD said there have been three “shots fired” reports since June, not including the recent shooting.

“It was like watching kids play paintball, but it was real guns,” Rosso said.

The investigation is ongoing. In the meantime, the Rosso’s say they are making other arrangements for when their kids want to come to visit and spend the night on the weekend.
