It sounds like the Cowboys are a step closer to extending WR CeeDee Lamb to end his holdout

The Dallas Cowboys and CeeDee Lamb might be a step closer to reaching a contract extension as Jane Slater from NFL Network reports that Stephen Jones confirmed Lamb was sent a new offer on Friday.

Jones also said that conversations are good as Lamb continues his holdout.

Negotiations with Lamb should be significantly different from those with Dak Prescott for a simple reason: The sides have a perfect template to follow for Lamb as Justin Jefferson (Vikings) recently became the highest-paid receiver in the NFL with comparable numbers to the Cowboys WR. That's different from Dak's situation, where he's got the leverage to reset the quarterback market and receive an unprecedented number.

As I wrote earlier in the week in our Lamb holdout explainer, I believe whenever a deal is reached, the numbers will look almost identical to Jefferson's deal:

Prediction: Ultimately, I think the Cowboys sign Lamb to a deal almost identical to Jefferson's at four years and $140M. A potential significant difference might come in guaranteed money. Jefferson hit $110 in guaranteed money, I could see Lamb coming in slightly underneath that mark.

Lamb said via Slater earlier in the week about the deal: ""It just has to make sense."

A seemingly simple demand from the wide receiver, who has been working to stay ready in Houston amid his ongoing holdout from camp.

Last year's All-Pro season was Lamb's best as he positioned himself among the league's elite by leading the NFL with 135 catches while finishing third in Offensive Player of the Year voting.

Cowboys Hall of Famer Charles Haley asked on the Up & Adams! Show: " How do you not keep (Dak and CeeDee Lamb) together?"

With their latest contract offer, the Cowboys might be one step closer to checking one of those two items on their offseason to-do list. So far, it sounds like there's more momentum going on the receiver front than there is with the quarterback. Now we wait.
