( KRON ) — If you purchased a new car model within the past few years, chances are it doesn’t have a CD player.
In the digital age of online streaming, CD players have become a rarity. Most cars today are equipped with things like Bluetooth connectivity and an auxiliary cord.
However, even in 2024, there are a few brand-new models that are equipped with this feature. According to a 2024 report by Car Trade Insider , there are nine car models with a built-in CD player.
Subaru Forester
Lexus LC 500
Subaru Outback Touring
Subaru Crosstrek
Nissan Maxima SV
Lexus ES
Mazda 6
Toyota Highlander
Cadillac Escalade
However, not all trims of each model listed above include a built-in CD player.

For example, a Subaru Outback only comes with that feature for its Touring trim. According to Subaru’s website, a CD player comes at no additional cost for a 2025 Outback Touring.
Subaru offers a CD player as standard equipment for select Outback trims, a company spokesperson said. The accessory is an option for its 2024 WRX, 2024 Ascent and 2025 Legacy models.
The Nissan Maxima, the Japanese automaker’s mid-size sedan, ended production in the U.S. and Canada in July 2023. However, on Nissan USA’s website , you can still buy a new 2023 Maxima, and all trims come with a built-in CD player.
This feature is gradually becoming more of a thing of the past as music consumption habits have changed. According to Forbes , citing research from IHS Automotive, 46% of cars sold in the United States didn’t have a built-in CD player by 2021.
