Best Body Sprays for Women Over 50: 8 Options That Help You Smell Great and Boost Confidence

One of the best compliments to receive is being told you smell good. There's just something about someone stopping you in the street or at your favorite coffee shop to ask, "What are you wearing? You smell amazing!" that makes you smile and feel confident. And while we love spritzing on our favorite perfume, we don't like how expensive just one spray can be, and therefore don't want to have to reapply it throughout the day. So what more affordable alternative can you turn to instead that you can reapply as much as your little heart desires? Enter body mists. While they've been around for decades, body sprays are coming back into the spotlight with new and improved formulas and brands that are long lasting, smell delicious and are a fraction of the cost of most eau de parfums. Here, we rounded up the best body sprays to throw in your bag so you smell and feel great all day long.

    What are body sprays?

You can think of body sprays, or body mists, as essentially a less potent or strong version of perfume. Perfumes are typically recommended to just be applied to the pulse points such as the wrists and behind the knees, whereas body sprays can usually be spritzed all over without being too overbearing. Body sprays don't typically last as long as perfume since they formulas aren't as concentrated. This makes sprays a more affordable option since you may have to reapply them more often — and you can reapply them without feeling guilty about how much each spritz is costing you.

How are body sprays different than perfume?

Overall, the biggest difference between body sprays and perfume is the concentration levels, as mentioned. Perfumes have higher levels of concentrated oils mixed with water and alcohol than body sprays, which have lower levels of concentrated oils. In other words, body mists are more diluted, and therefore are less strong than perfumes. Body mists will usually last anywhere from 1-4 hours, whereas perfume can last sometimes more than 10 hours. You can think of perfume as the base, or foundation in makeup terms, and body spray as the setting powder. Perfume should last throughout the whole day, but body sprays are good for touch ups, just like how you may keep a compact powder in your purse for reapplication during the day.

Is body spray or perfume better for skin?

Everyone's skin is different, and therefore everyone's skin will react differently to different products and formulas. However, since body sprays are less intense and have lower levels of concentrated oils, it's generally better for sensitive skin than perfume. Sensitive skin can react poorly to strongly-fragranced/scented products, so body sprays may be a bit gentler.

And if you don't want to risk putting either directly on your skin, body sprays are a nice option as they can typically be sprayed on clothes. Put on a few spritzes when you get dressed in the morning, focusing on your clothes only, to smell good with less of a risk of flare ups.
