Showtime has released a new Dexter: Original Sin trailer, while also revealing that a sequel series to the legendary crime drama series is in the works starring Michael C. Hall.

The new Dexter: Original Sin video is the opening sequence from the upcoming series, which stars Patrick Gibson as a young Dexter. Michael C. Hall will also appear in this series, serving as the inner monologue narrator of Dexter. Dexter: Original Sin takes place in the ’90s, and will tell the origin of the serial killer/forensic technician.

    What is Dexter: Resurrection about?

Alongside the information about Original Sin, Showtime also announced that a Dexter sequel series, called Dexter: Resurrection, is in the works. The news came during Showtime’s San Diego Comic-Con panel for Original Sin, when Michael C. Hall surprised fans by appearing.

Not too much is known about the series as of now, but it will be set in the present day and serve as a follow-up to 2021’s Dexter: New Blood, which itself was a sequel miniseries to the original show.

“We are thrilled to have the brilliant Michael C. Hall reprise his iconic role as Dexter Morgan in Showtime’s most successful series ever,” Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global co-CEO and president/CEO, Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios, said in a statement. “While Dexter: Resurrection will appeal to the tens of millions of longtime fans, Dexter: Original Sin will introduce a whole new generation of viewers into this iconic series by starting from the beginning, which is sure to satisfy existing audiences as well.”

Dexter was initially played by Hall in the eight-season Showtime series that premiered in 2006. His father was played by James Remar in the original series, while Jennifer Carpenter portrayed Debra. The series also starred Julie Benz as Rita Bennett, Erik King as James Doakes, Lauren Vélez as María LaGuerta, and David Zayas as Angel Batista.
