Star Trek is going boldly into a new world: live-action comedy.

During the Star Trek Universe panel at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, Tawny Newsome ( Star Trek: Lower Decks ) and moderator/ Dear White People creator Justin Simien announced they are in development on a Star Trek live-action comedy at Paramount+.

According to the official logline, in the untitled project, “Federation outsiders serving a gleaming resort planet find out their day-to-day exploits are being broadcast to the entire quadrant.” Simien and Newsome also mentioned the series would feature 25th-century shenanigans and odd couple pairings.

Joining Simien and Newsome as executive producers are Aaron Baiers, Rod Roddenberry, Trevor Roth and Star Trek vet Alex Kurtzman. Kurtzman, Simien and Newsome also will serve as writers.

The Star Trek Universe has never before taken on live-action comedy, though it has dabbled in animation with Lower Decks and Prodigy . Earlier at Comic-Con, the franchise also revealed a first look for Strange New Worlds , a trailer for Section 31 starring Michelle Yeoh , and a casting announcement for upcoming spinoff Starfleet Academy .
