    What is Stiff Person Syndrome?

Stiff person syndrome, or SPS, is an autoimmune neurological disorder that is very rare and more commonly leads to pain spasms and muscle stiffness that happen sporadically, and may worsen as time goes by. But, some experience other types of symptoms like slurred speech, double vision, or an unsteady gait. The symptoms of SPS are believed to be associated with which kind of SPS an individual has.

Even though there isn’t any treatment that cures the syndrome, working alongside a specialist, as well as maintaining control of symptoms may make it more convenient to tolerate the condition.

Stiff Person Syndrome usually develops in people from ages 40–50; however, in rare instances, it can occur in older adults and children. The syndrome is believed to affect 1 to 2 people in one million. But, Stiff Person Syndrome experts currently consider it to bea spectrum of disorders, meaning it’s likely more common than first thought, though still rare.
