    ‘Unpredictable winds’ affecting new Dry Wash Fire in Sevier County

    SEVIER COUNTY, Utah ( ABC4 ) — A new wildfire ignited in Sevier County, north of Big Rock Candy Mountain, on Saturday, according to Utah Fire Info.

    The fire, which was named the Dry Wash Fire, was first discovered on Saturday between I-70 and north of Big Rock Candy Mountain, Utah Fire Info said .

    “The unpredictable winds are affecting fire behavior,” Utah Fire Info said.

    According to the Utah Wildfire Dashboard , the Dry Wash Fire was first discovered before 4:20 p.m. on Saturday. As of about 9 p.m. on Saturday night, the dashboard said the fire had grown to about 300 acres.

    Officials said resources are fighting the blaze from the ground and the air, and Utah Fire Info has asked people to avoid the area to keep firefighters and the public safe.

    Utah Fire Info posted an update on social media shortly after its initial post to inform the public that Fremont Indian State Park and Museum was closed because of the fire. People were again asked to avoid the area.

    Officials did not initially release information about what may have caused the Dry Wash Fire.

    There is no further information at this time.
