WINNEBAGO COUNTY, Ill. (WTVO) — Rock Cut State Park remained closed late Saturday as search and rescue efforts continued to find a missing man.

The park and Pierce Lake were closed to visitors at around 7 p.m. on Saturday and campers were asked to remain at their campsite.

According to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, a man went missing this afternoon and a sonar search of Pierce Lake was conducted.

“Search efforts continue, select areas in the campground will remain closed until further notice. Boats ramps to access Pierce Lake will remain closed and no boat traffic will be permitted until further notice. This means no rentals until we receive the all-clear. The Lone Rock Café, Camp Store, and Olson Beach will be open with normal hours,” park officials said.

Authorities have not identified the missing man or said what led to his disappearance.

Park officials said Rock Cut is expected to reopen on Sunday, July 28th.
