SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – The Salvation Army of Sullivan County held its 12th annual “Back to School Blitz,” this weekend.

Around 200 children went home with school supplies to help prepare them for the upcoming school year.

“We have discovered that as prices go up for school supplies, they also go up for things like tennis shoes and socks,” said Sullivan County Salvation Army Chair Michele Smith. “We want these kids to go back to school with everything they need or as close to that as we can do, because that takes the burden off these parents.”

Students received everything from backpacks, water bottles, school supplies, and even new shoes.

Local churches, businesses, and other organizations donated the need items or money helped purchase what was needed.

Several Salvation Army members and volunteers are to thank as they helped many students and families for the upcoming school year.
