September will mark the beginning of operations of the new Alta Warehousing and Logistics facility that looks to establish a southeastern market presence for Alta’s clients in the United States.

Within the first year, the new facility will open six positions. According to Economic and Community Development Director Irene Wong, by the end of the second year, 12 jobs are expected.

The new Davidson 85 facility includes 146,628 square feet near I-85 and Kannapolis Parkway and was completed by the McCraney Property Company, the first project this company is finishing in the Kannapolis area.

“We are thrilled to call Kannapolis our newest home. The McCraney team built a beautiful building, and we look forward to putting it to good use. This facility will serve as a warehouse and distribution center for a beverage company,” said Michl Haralambos, vice president of business development for Alta, quoted in a press release published by the Kannapolis North Carolina’s local government.

Alta Warehousing and Logistics is a family-owned and operated business founded in 1991 by the Haralambos family. According to the information on its web page, Alta is a “pioneer in distributing non-alcoholic beverages.”

“This is the first McCraney project in Kannapolis. We are also a family-owned company, and we are pleased that Alta recognized the possibilities of this site and the City. Kannapolis leaders have created a healthy business environment for new and established businesses which is being recognized with this announcement, “ said Steven McCraney, president & CEO of McCraney Property Company.

The company operates 7 independent warehousing facilities across the United States in five key regions: California, Florida, Indiana, Utah, and the new facility which will start operations in September in Kannapolis for North Carolina.

“We welcome Alta Warehousing and the Haralambos Family to Kannapolis and North Carolina. We look forward to watching the successful growth of their company in the years to come,” said Kannapolis Mayor Darrell Hinnant.

The second-best state for investment in the United States

The investment confirms “the strength of Charlotte regional market and that Kannapolis is well positioned along the I-85 corridor to serve markets throughout North Carolina and beyond”, said Wong.

Davidson 85 is one of the major job creation projects built in North Carolina for the I-85 corridor that are underway or nearing completion, “the others include 85 Exchange, Kannapolis Crossing & Overlook 85, Lakeshore Corporate Park (Chick-Fil-A Supply has announced their new home at this facility) and Metro 63”, states the Kannapolisnc.com web page.

The State has been chosen by CNBC, for the fifth year in a row, as one of the three best places to do business in the United States with 2024 seeing a second place below the State of Virginia and above Texas.

The ranking, according to the methodology used by CNBC, uses 128 metrics in 10 broad categories of competitiveness and evaluates how often the state uses them as a selling point in economic development marketing materials.

For the fifth year in a row, North Carolina was selected among the top three States to do business in the United States, but 2022 and 2023, were the best years, according to CNBC that put the State in the first position.

In 2019, North Carolina ranked third and in 2021 was second. The 2024 ranking was described as the “tightest finish in Top States history” since it started in 2007 evaluating categories such as infrastructure, workforce, economy, quality of life, cost of doing business, technology and innovation, business friendliness, Education, access to capital and Cost of Living.

North Carolina has the best scoring in business friendliness, workforce, and economy, according to the ranking.
