Man Utd handed boost in Jarrad Branthwaite saga as Fabrizio Romano confirms huge transfer news

To balance the books, the club has recouped funds by offloading players deemed surplus to Erik ten Hag's plans. One player who has been strongly linked with an Old Trafford move in recent weeks is Jarrad Branthwaite, who has emerged as one of the Premier League's most promising defensive prospects after a standout season with Everton. His impressive performances nearly earned him a spot on the England squad for Euro 2024.

Erik ten Hag's side have already seen two offers turned down by Everton for the defender. The first bid, amounting to £35 million with add-ons, was rejected, followed by a second offer of £45 million plus an additional £5 million, which also met with a firm refusal.

The Toffees have reportedly set their sights on a valuation of up to £70 million for Branthwaite, whose contract with the club runs until 2027.

However, according to the latest update from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, United may have received a huge boost in their pursuit of Branthwaite.

The Italian journalist reports that Everton has agreed a deal for centre-back Jake O'Brien from Lyon, with a medical scheduled for Sunday and a five-year contract on the table for the Republic of Ireland international.

O'Brien, who joined Lyon last summer from Crystal Palace, could potentially serve as a replacement for Branthwaite at Everton. This development may create a ripple effect, improving United's chances of signing their top defensive target.
