Dwyane Wade made his debut as an Olympic commentator during Saturday's game between France and Brazil. It was the first time D-Wade had seen Victor Wembanyama in an actual game, and the French phenom left quite an impression on the Miami Heat legend.

"What I love most about him, and obviously, we're going to look at the highlights and it's incredible," Dwyane said. "But it's the patience of this player, the patience to make sure that his teammates get involved and get into the game first. And he did the little things first. He did the little things early to get himself going, and then he took over."

Wemby let the game come to him

Wemby entered the game with high expectations. However, he looked to make his teammates comfortable during the first quarter. The Brazilians took a 23-15 first-quarter lead with Victor not asserting himself. But as Wembanyama began to do his thing, France took a 39-36 lead at halftime and never looked back.

The No.1 overall pick of the 2023 NBA Draft finished the game with 19 points on 7-13 shooting while also grabbing nine rebounds and dishing out two assists. He also had four steals and three blocks in 31 minutes of action.

"He gave us a little bit of everything," added Wade. "And just look how much it means to him. Every shot for him means so much to him. You can feel it here in this arena. You can feel it in his country. He's representing something bigger than just him and than just his family."

Victor isn't settling for anything less than victory

Wemby playing with a bigger purpose in the Olympics comes as no surprise. France lost to the U.S. in the previous Olympic gold medal game, but Wemby wasn't on that team. Last month, Victor talked about his motivation for heading to the 2024 Olympics .

"Representing France adds a layer of motivation and energy," Victor said during an interview with French journalist Maxime Aubin. "It's patriotism and a lot of what I want to achieve in my career. I can't accept to lose against another country."

So far, Wemby has looked impressive. But it's still a long tournament, and anything can happen. As long as he gets help from his teammates, Les Bleus should be a team to watch.
