Event to watch: Fencing – Day 2
A sport of both tradition and evolution, fencing has been a fixture in the Olympics since its inception in the inaugural Games – Athens 1896.
The women’s side debuted in Paris in 1924, expanding to include foil, épée, and sabre events over the years. Fencers wield weapons to strike target areas, with rules varying by weapon type.
The competition will be held at the Grand Palais Museum in Paris.
The sport features 12 different Olympic events, and Lee Kiefer of the U.S. sets her sights on a second gold medal in the women’s individual foil.
