Enzo Fernandez is set to join Chelsea's preseason tour in the United States despite recent controversy over a racism scandal.

Earlier this month, the 23-year-old midfielder, shared a video showing him and teammates singing a chant that has been criticised for being racist and homophobic towards France during their post-match celebrations.

Fernandez could participate in Chelsea's remaining preseason matches against Club America, Manchester City, and Real Madrid before the team returns to the UK for the new Premier League season.

Fresh off winning the Copa America with Argentina, the incident sparked significant backlash from his teammates and Fernandez will see them in the coming days as he travels to the US, according to a new report from The Daily Mail.

The report states that Fernandez, currently under investigation by the club, will arrive in the States on Monday. It also mentions that he may need to address and rectify the situation with his teammates, some of whom have publicly condemned his actions.

In response to the criticism, Fernandez has apologised for the video, asserting that it does not reflect his beliefs or character. Chelsea captain Reece James disclosed earlier this week that he had tried to speak with Fernandez, acknowledging that the incident could negatively impact the team's dressing room dynamics.

James told ESPN : "Of course. There's always the factor where it doesn't sit right with people when there could be a problem. But until the day comes where everyone's together and in a room together, I don't know, but I hope things can be resolved smoothly and we can move forward with the season.

"I spoke to him a bit, but it was hard because we were on different time zones. Just a general chat really. His views on what happened and him trying to explain his situation and how things happened. It's a really difficult situation. There's no room for racism or discrimination in football.

"I think he quickly put his hand up and acknowledged he'd done wrong and apologised to his teammates, the club and the rest of the people that were offended. I think that was probably the best he could have done in that situation."
