Haason Reddick could be reporting to Jets camp soon: ‘progressed positively’

The Jets could be getting closer to having Haason Reddick at training camp.

Reddick, the pass rusher acquired from the Eagles in March who has been holding out of team activities as he looks for a new contract, and Gang Green “progressed positively” this week, according to NFL insider Josina Anderson — to the point where there’s “recent hope that Reddick’s presence and acclimation process with the team is approaching,” Anderson wrote in a post on X on Saturday.

When asked about that reported development Saturday, head coach Robert Saleh said, “Until he’s here, he’s not.”

“But it’s good to hear, though,” he added following the Jets’ fourth training camp session.

Later, when asked about a hypothetical player arriving to camp late, Saleh said there would be an acclimation period to navigate — though he hadn’t determined how long it’d last.

Reddick, set to make $14.25 million in base salary in 2024, missed the voluntary OTAs and the mandatory minicamp sessions, and he didn’t report to the Jets’ camp when it began.

So that became one of the overarching storylines beyond anything that unfolded during practices.

He logged unexcused absences — along with quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who took a trip to Egypt — during mandatory minicamp. That followed Reddick’s absences at the voluntary portion of the Jets’ offseason, too.

Reddick, acquired in exchange for a conditional third-round pick, will eventually be tasked with filling a role on the defensive line vacated by Bryce Huff, a breakout star in 2023 who signed a three-year, $51 deal with the Eagles in free agency.

The Jets still have All-Pro lineman Quinnen Williams. Jermaine Johnson took a step forward last season with a five-sack increase, too. But there’s still plenty of production for Gang Green to replace, and Reddick, with at least 11 sacks in each of the last four seasons, will help with that.

Aaron Rodgers now has great Jets blindside bodyguard he needs

On the first day of camp, Saleh said he wasn’t “overly concerned” with Reddick’s absence .

That’s the “business part” of football, he said.

But after months of the Jets operating without Reddick, the recent dose of optimism suggests that it, finally, could change soon.

Right guard Alijah Vera-Tucker, who returned as a full participant Friday and participated in a portion of team drills again Saturday, said he hasn’t felt pain in his Achilles — which he tore in October. He has a “couple hurdles” remaining, and his rep count will increase daily.

Cornerback Brandin Echols missed practice Saturday and has “kinda like a contusion in his ribs,” Saleh said.

He’ll be re-evaluated Monday, but the Jets aren’t concerned about his long-term availability.

WR Xavier Gipson (lower extremity injury) and OL Jake Hanson also didn’t practice.

The Jets signed QB Adrian Martinez and CB Kendall Sheffield, and they cut QB Ben Bryant and CB Nehemiah Shelton.

Martinez won the UFL’s MVP award for both its season and championship game in 2024, throwing for 1,749 yards, rushing for 528 and collecting 18 total touchdowns for the Birmingham Stallions.
