Rod Stewart Admits “My Days Are Numbered” as He Nears 80 Years Old

When first trying to break into the music industry during the 1960s, Rod Stewart learned the art of busking. Using his harmonica to entertain the crowd, Stewart’s time on the street was numbered as he went on to produce over 30 albums and sell more than 120 million records. Although landing a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the singer received a knighthood in 2016. But now, as Stewart looks back on his lavish career in the spotlight, he recently admitted that his days are numbered.

While Stewart doesn’t turn 80 until next January, he is already counting down the days as he told The Sun, “I’m aware my days are numbered but I’ve got no fear. We have all got to pass on at some point, so we are all in the same basket. I am going to be enjoying myself for these last few years as much as I can.” He continued, “I say few – probably another 15. I can do that easy mate, easy.”

Rod Stewart Once Battled Prostate Cancer

Discussing how the times changed over the years with not just society but his own body, Stewart added, “I’m not like I was in the ’70s and ’80s and I can’t stay up all night, get drunk and go mad and still have a voice just like that. Nowadays I have to protect my voice before and after every show.”

Although not able to turn back time, Stewart learned to take each day at a time and focus more on his health. Throughout the years, the singer received more than a few health scares. Back in 2019, he appeared on the talk show Loose Women where he talked about his battle with prostate cancer. “I had a touch of thyroid cancer, it was over and out within 10 minutes. I don’t want to pretend I fought cancer for months and months. It was really easy to get rid of, but I did lose my voice – totally gone.”

While he looks over his career on the stage, Stewart continues to work. Back in February, he collaborated with Jools Holland to release the album Swing Fiver.
