Simone Biles suffered an injury scare on the first day of qualifying at the Paris Olympics on Sunday, crawling across the floor after her beam routine and returning with her left ankle taped.

While the extent of Biles' injury was not immediately clear, the 27-year-old turned in a strong performance at the opening of the Summer Games and earned praise from the Team USA coach for her efforts to overcome the adversity.

As Los Angeles Times reporter Thuc Nhi Nguyen wrote on X , Team USA technical lead Chelsie Memmel had a one-word statement on Biles.

"Chelsie Memmel didn't have an update on Simone Biles' injury and said she hadn't met with Simone or the medical staff yet, but she described the resilience as 'incredible,' " Nguyen wrote.

Memmel told NBC that she had not yet spoken to Biles, but would be getting a full update on the gymnast's ankle soon.

"I haven't even got to speak to Simone. I need to speak with our team, our medical team, but I don't have an answer about that. I just first and foremost, I just want to make sure she's physically okay," Memmel said.
