Prince William and Kate Middleton Face ‘Awkward’ and ‘Major’ Situation as Prince Harry Is Set to Make a Big UK Return

Prince Harry and Prince William aren’t close, but one major event might finally force the two brothers to put the past behind them -- or else it will leave William and Kate Middleton in a tough spot.

Prince William and Kate Middleton seem focused on two things: Kate’s health, and preparing to one day become king and queen. Although Kate has only made a handful of public appearances this year due to ongoing cancer treatment, the family has somehow seemed more united than ever in the public eye.

But one family member, Prince Harry, is set to make a big return to his home country that will undoubtedly leave William and Kate in an “awkward” position — unless things between them change.

Prince Harry is set to return to the UK for the 2027 Invictus Games

Harry has made a number of trips to the UK since he and Meghan left the country back in 2020. However, he has not seen his family on all occasions. The Duke of Sussex did return in February for a visit with his father, but when he made the trip in May, he didn’t see any royal family members.

But those trips were quick, unlike the one Harry is planning to take in 2027, when the Invictus Games return to the UK. And, presumably, Meghan will go with him since she has attended all of Harry’s Invictus Games from the time the two met. However, with the tensions continuing between Harry and his brother, Prince William, it puts Kate and William in an “awkward” situation.

“The Royal Family would almost certainly have to consider the optics of a major sporting event being held in the heart of the UK and no visibility from Harry’s immediate family, thus placing the Waleses in an awkward position,” royal expert Dorothy Reddin wrote for GB News. “William and Kate could run the risk of appearing cold if they failed to show public support for the Duke of Sussex.” Of course, by 2027, William and Kate will be even closer to throne and more set on ensuring they have a strong reputation with the public.

Could the Invictus Games bring Prince Harry and Prince William closer?

Even if it’s for the sake of his own reputation, it might behoove William to work harder on building a better relationship with his brother. If the Games are in town for a week and William never shows up, what does it say about his inability to let go of a grudge? It wouldn’t be a good look for a future king, and although it might not be the most heartfelt reason for repairing the relationship, the Invictus Games could be worth William and Harry getting back on decent terms.

Although Harry’s reputation has suffered in the UK, it seems all anyone wants is for the royal family to be one big happy unit. The public would probably love it if William showed support for his brother, and all eyes will be on the two men in three years.
