BERRIEN SPRINGS, Mich. — Nestled in the picturesque landscape of Berrien Springs, Lemon Creek Winery stands as a testament to the region’s rich winemaking heritage and family tradition. This summer, the winery invites visitors to bask in its scenic beauty and savor its storied flavors as it celebrates a significant milestone: its 40th anniversary.

Founded in 1984 by Jeff Lemon, a sixth-generation farmer with deep roots in the area, Lemon Creek Winery has grown from its humble beginnings to become a cornerstone of Michigan’s wine scene. “The winery’s story is intertwined with our family’s history,” said Jeff Lemon, reflecting on the origins of Lemon Creek. “There is a real Lemon Creek named after my family, where my great-great-great uncle once operated a sawmill.”

From those early days of growing a diverse range of grapes to establishing a winery that now spans 170 acres, Lemon Creek has weathered the evolving wine industry. Despite being the second winery in southwest Michigan, behind Tabor Hill, Lemon Creek has thrived through decades of growth and change. “The wine boom of the 90s brought a lot of attention, but our foundation was laid long before that,” Lemon noted.

Today, the winery boasts 26 different grape varieties and continues to be a family-run operation. It has become a beloved destination for wine enthusiasts and families alike. “I’ve seen generations of families come through,” Lemon added. “People who visited as kids are now bringing their own children, and even their grandchildren.”

The winery’s appeal extends beyond local visitors. Featured on the popular Netflix series “Love is Blind,” Lemon Creek has garnered recognition from wine lovers across the United States, from California to New York. “It’s exciting to see people from all over the country discovering our area as a notable wine region,” said Jerardo Bocanegra, the assistant winemaker.

To commemorate its anniversary, Lemon Creek Winery is hosting the Vintage Blues Bash on Sunday, July 28, from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event promises a lively mix of food trucks, live music, and wine, with a $10 entry fee and free parking.

Experience the rich flavors and vibrant history of Lemon Creek Winery at 533 E Lemon Creek Road, Berrien Springs. For more details about the event and the winery, visit their official website.
