Ever wondered what your favorite rock musicians enjoy listening to? Tons of bands out there have been open about the artists and albums that inspired their work. However, we rarely hear about the albums that our favorite rock stars just enjoy listening to personally. Let’s take a look at five of your favorite rock musicians’ favorite albums!

    1. Gavin Rossdale of Bush Loves ‘Welcome To The Boomtown’ by David & David

Gavin Rossdale is the frontman of the post-grunge alt-rock outfit Bush. However, his personal music tastes appear to lean toward classic American rock. Welcome To The Boomtown, the only album by David & David, is one of his top picks.

“This was the record that really showed me bittersweet lyrics, dubby bassline, great guitar, great songs and I just loved that record,” Rossdale said in a stacked interview of different artists by Forbes. “I would have loved to hear what else they’re up to. In fact, on my solo record, I tried to get David Baerwald to write with me. Incredible record.”

    2. Alice Cooper Loves ‘Eli And The Thirteenth Confession’ by Laura Nyro

Alice Cooper is the Godfather of Shock Rock, which makes his love for folk singer/songwriter Laura Nyro’s Eli And The Thirteenth Confession so interesting. When it comes to our favorite rock musicians’ favorite albums, this one is surprising. But Laura Nyro is simply addicting, so we get it.

“That and her first album, you listen and there’s not one mistake anywhere on it,” Cooper said to Forbes. “And you sit there and go, ‘That’s songwriting.’”

    3. Vic Fuentes of Pierce The Veil Loves ‘Tidal’ by Fiona Apple

In a way, it makes sense that Vic Fuentes of post-hardcore band Pierce The Veil is such a fan of Tidal by Fiona Apple. It was a pretty edgy piece of work when it was first released in 1996. Apple is incredibly vulnerable on this record, with vocal performances that are so heartbreaking that they are difficult to forget.

“This will always be one of my favorite albums of all time,” said Fuentes. “Her vocal performance is so beautifully tortured and heartbroken that I still find myself worrying about her when I hear her sing these songs.”

    4. Kevin Cronin of REO Speedwagon Loves ‘Home Free’ by Dan Fogelberg

Kevin Cronin of REO Speedwagon is a big fan of Home Free by singer/songwriter Dan Fogelberg. He’s far from the only classic rock musician to express his love of folk and folk-rock masters.

“REO was working down the street from the Nashville studio where Danny [Fogelberg] was recording, and I used to sit in on his sessions, so I feel a personal connection to all these songs,” said Cronin of the album.

    5. Deryck Whibley of Sum 41 Loves ‘Wildflowers’ by Tom Petty

This top pick for Deryck Whibley of the pop-punk outfit Sum 41 is a little surprising, considering how vastly different his music from Sum 41 is. However, Whibley has said that the album elicits “bliss” in a way that is even mysterious to him.

“Every time I listen to it [Wildflowers by Tom Petty], it makes feel a certain blissful feeling which is really hard to describe,” said Whibley. “It’s that mystery in music that I love. Why do I feel that way when I hear it? I have no idea. It just speaks to me on a level that’s impossible to explain and can only be felt.”
