Some viewers didn't love the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony —and Candace Cameron Bure was one of them.
On Friday, July 26, the hours-long opening ceremony kicked off with the parade of athletes riding in boats on the Seine River. Lady Gaga and Celine Dion both performed, and several pre-recorded segments were incorporated into the broadcast, in addition to other live elements of the program.
"I didn't really want to weigh in on the Olympics opening ceremony publicly because I always risk becoming a headline," Cameron Bure, 48, said in a video shared via Instagram on Sunday, July 28. "But it felt too important not to."
The actress explained that she loves the Olympic Games, noting that her husband, Valeri Bure , and her brother-in-law are two-time medalists, and her father-in-law has three medals.
"The Olympic Games have always brought me so much joy. It's the best of the best athletes in the world competing for the title," the Full House alum said in her video.
Cameron Bure continued: "So to watch such an incredible and wonderful event that's going to take place over the next two weeks and see the opening ceremonies completely blaspheme and mock the Christian faith with their interpretations of the Last Supper was disgusting. And it made me so sad."

In her caption, Cameron Bure noted that some followers have "tried to correct" her by claiming the Paris Olympics opening ceremony depicted a Greek god and the Festival of Dionysus and not Leonardo da Vinci 's "The Last Supper."
"I still don’t see how that relates to unifying the world through competitive sports and acceptable for children to watch," she wrote, adding, "In any case, I’m not buying it."
In the comments, many agreed with Cameron Bure's stance. One person wrote, "Such a strong, graceful, gospel-centered stance. Thank for for sharing and for being bold and kind."
Another shared, "It definitely bothered me. The whole thing was very weird and gave off ritual vibes," while someone else commented, "Amen, sis!!!! Preach🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 Glory to King Jesus 🙏🏽."
However, others pushed back against Cameron Bure's stance. One Instagram user shared in part, "Not every human in this planet needs to be Christian. That’s just your faith. Aside from that, France is a country of arts 🎭 and culture. Let’s get out of the box already. Let’s read a little history. Let’s leave the judgment to God."
Another pointed out, "The. World. Does. Not. Revolve. Around. Your. Particular. Beliefs."
Meanwhile, yet another commented, "The story was about the Greek Gods and the history of the Olympics. I think Americans are over reacting because of our own turmoil in this country...If France was predominantly a country of another religion, and was outspoken about hating Christian people or beliefs I could see what you are saying. But there is no logic to this theory."
