Giants QB Daniel Jones Finally Gets Positive Assessment

I’m not sure there is a player in the NFL right who is catching more heat than New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones.

Of course, a lot of that has to do with the Giants’ appearance on HBO’s Hard Knocks, but let’s be honest: Jones was getting cooked long before the series.

Much of it has to do with the four-year, $160 million contract extension Jones signed with New York following an impressive 2022 campaign.

The early returns on the deal have not been good for the Giants, as Jones was in and out of the lineup last season before tearing his ACL in Week 9. In six games with Big Blue last year, Jones threw for two touchdowns and six interceptions.

Not exactly numbers worthy of $40 million per year.

However, in Jones’ defense, he has not had a legitimate No. 1 wide receiver since entering the NFL in 2019, and he has also played behind offensive lines seemingly made of paper mache.

    Until now.

The Giants selected top wide out Malik Nabers with the sixth overall pick of the NFL Draft in April, and they also patched up their offensive line in free agency.

The work New York has done this offseason has Anthony DiBona of Pro Football Network dubbing Jones the most likely Giants player to improve in 2024.

It’s a make or break season for Daniel Jones

Here’s the catch about Jones’ deal with New York: it isn’t guaranteed beyond 2024, so if the former No. 6 overall selection struggles again this season, the Giants can cut their losses and move on.

That means Jones has to show out for the G-Men starting in September if he wants to have any chance of remaining in the Big Apple long term.

Remember: the Giants also signed Drew Lock, and there are many who believe Lock is a legitimate threat to unseat Jones as the starting quarterback at some point this year.

Obviously, there is a lot of pressure on Jones heading into 2024, but if he plays anything like the way he did in 2022 when he led New York to a shocking playoff appearance, the criticism will die down. At least for the time being, anyway.

We’ll see if Daniel Jones can lead the Giants to another surprising season.
