Mitch Landrieu, a national co-chair for Vice President Harris’s 2024 campaign, on Sunday touted the likely nominee’s progress since entering the race for the Democratic ticket’s top spot and encouraged centrist voters to take part in “history” by supporting the campaign.

In an interview on MSNBC’s “The Weekend,” Landrieu criticized former President Trump’s pick for his running mate, first-term Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), and noted that more than a dozen of Trump’s Cabinet secretaries left the White House prematurely, during Trump’s first term.

“That goes to Donald Trump’s inability to pick people that can actually run the country,” Landrieu said.

“I think that’s something that reasonable, thoughtful Americans, who consider themselves in the middle, should consider, because they don’t want this country destroyed,” Landrieu added.

“And we’re all patriots, but we’ve got to grab the country. You just have to make the right decision in this right moment. History is calling you. Let’s not let it pass us by. Let’s grab it, and let’s go forward,” he continued.

Landrieu, who oversaw the implementation of the historic infrastructure bill passed at the beginning of President Biden’s term, touted the campaign’s progress since Biden announced he would no longer seek the party’s nomination for another term.

Landrieu said the Harris campaign has had “one of the best weeks that we’ve seen in politics in the last 50 years,” noting that the team has raised $200 million , has 150,000 new volunteers and held more than 2,000 events for Harris nationwide on Saturday.

“When President Biden decided he wasn’t going to run again, the vice president stepped into this race. I mean, she roared into it. She took off like a rocket ship, and she has the pulse of the nation in her hands,” he said.
