    It’s Official, ‘Longlegs’ Is Neon’s Top Grossing Film Ever; Sean Wang’s ‘Didi’ Sees Nice Open In Limited Release – Specialty Box Office

    As anticipated on Friday, Nicolas Cage starring Longlegs , pushing a $6.7 million weekend on 2,730 screens — for a cume of $58.6 million in week 3 — has surpassed Parasite ’s $53.37 million to become the indie distributor’s highest grossing film ever.

    Now in week 3, the Osgood Perkins pic is also the top grossing R-rated horror of 2024 and the highest grossing indie horror film of the last ten years, topping A24’s Talk To Me , Insidious Chapter 3 from Universal’s Focus, and A24’s Hereditary . It’s no. 5 at the domestic box office.

    Also in wide release, Bleecker Street is estimating The Fabulous Four will gross just over $1 million in its opening weekend on 1,045 screens. Directed by Jocelyn Moorhouse, its stars Susan Sarandon, Megan Mullally and Sheryl Lee Ralph as a group of lifelong friends who travel to Key West to be bridesmaids in the surprise wedding of their best college girlfriend, played by Bette Midler. It’s at no. 8 at the weekend box office.

    In limited release, Focus Features’ 2024 Sundance Audience Award-winner Dìdi grossed $200k at five locations for a strong per theater average of $40k, one of the top three limited openings of the year. It carries a 95% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes with an early audience score of 100%. The film by Sean Wang will continue its slow platform release next weekend adding approximately 50 theaters.

    “This strong opening weekend re-confirms what audiences, and our team saw at Sundance this past January, a heartwarming and relatable coming-of-age story that showcases Sean Wang’s immense talent as a storyteller. We are pleased with this start and look to strategically roll the film out in the coming weeks as this film is discovered,” said Focus Features’ President of Distribution, Lisa Bunnell.

    Noting Raayan, a Tamil-language crime thriller from PrimeMedia, written and directed by Dhanush, rounded out the domestic box office at no. 10, according to Comscore early rankings, with a $378.6 weekend on 120 screens, and a 4$53 cume.

    Holdovers : The champagne is still flowing for Widow Clicquot , Thomas Napper’s historical drama about the young widow in 18 th century France who revolutionized the champagne industry. On 83 screens in week 2 (down from 100). the Vertical film is now Certified Fresh with a 90% score with an estimated 3-day box-office gross of $113k for a $396k cume. Top markets include NY, San Fran, Dallas, Philly and Sacramento.

    IFC Films’ Oddity by Damian McCarthy is looking at a $100k weekend gross of $100k on 229 screens in week 2 for a cume of over $1 million.

    Focus also has Baltasar Kormákur’s lost love story Touch in 84 theaters for a $43k weekend and a cume of $1.1 million in week 3.

    A24s Sing Sing is holding tight on 4 screens in week 3 with a $46.4k weekend gross and a cume of circa $335k million for the prison drama starring Colman Domingo.
