Team USA got its Olympics basketball tournament quest for gold off to a flying start in Paris on Sunday. Steve Kerr's team overcame Nikola Jokic and the Serbian national team 110-84. Despite Serbia starting off hot on a 10-2 run, the star-studded USA roster bounced back with some exceptional play and a great display of elite-level talent.

Here are three takeaways from Team USA's win.

    1. Perimeter shooting is a swing factor

Team USA shot a collective 56% from deep. The shorter three-point line looked borderline unfair for a roster full of players who make their living in the NBA. The three-point shot is how Team USA quickly eradicated Serbia's hot start and took control of the game. If opposing defenses can't find a way of impacting shooters and running them off the line, Team USA could steamroll everyone in its way.

Kevin Durant's 100% conversion rate from deep, coupled with Steph Curry's 43% success rate, ensured Steve Kerr's roster had a ridiculous amount of floor spacing. Team USA has quickly identified a significant advantage and will likely double down moving forward.

    2. Joel Embiid still isn't anywhere near 100%

Embiid rushed back from meniscus surgery to compete in the 2024 NBA Playoffs. He was miles away from being 100% healthy during the Philadelphia 76ers' first-round exit and still looks to be working his way back to fitness. Embiid lacks burst, lateral quickness and overall mobility. He consistently looks behind the pace of play and fails to make any significant impact on the floor.

Kerr would be wise to limit the former MVP's playing time, primarily to ensure his health continues to improve and due to the lack of upside, he's currently providing the roster.

    3. Jayson Tatum's absence makes no sense

Tatum didn't see a single second of playing time on Sunday. Kerr admitted after the game that his decision was based on getting Kevin Durant more playing time. However, Kerr still found room to run three-guard rotations. Tatum is a top-10 player in the NBA. He is the best player on the best team in the NBA. Unless he is injured, there should be no reason for him to be kept off the court.

Kerr must find room for the three-time All-NBA first-team talent in his rotation. Tatum's selfless style of play is the perfect glue for a front court that is teeming with stars.
