The 33-year-old singer-songwriter took to her Instagram Story on Saturday afternoon to announce that she would need time to rest after spending the night in a Hungarian hospital. She did not go into detail about her medical situation, only mentioning that she was advised to "rest thoroughly".
As a consequence of her hospital visit, Rita will not be performing at Campus Fesztival later on during the same day. The pop star broke the news a few hours before her show at the annual event in Debrecen, Hungary.
To her fans, she penned an apologetic message: "Please forgive this unexpected turn of events but sadly I will not be able to perform at Campus Fesztival tonight. Having spent the night in hospital in Budapest, I must rest thoroughly and follow doctor's orders."
To wrap up her statement, Rita said sorry to her fans who were expecting to see her perform, assuring them that their understanding didn't go unnoticed. She said: "I am so sorry to my fans who are going to be there today and I'm truly thankful for your understanding."
The festival team took to social media to express their disappointment, sharing Rita's statement and adding: "[Her] crew has been working since dawn to set up the show ... we are devastated by the news too. Saturday's program of the main stage will be reorganized soon. We wish Rita a speedy recovery."
Additionally, the festival confirmed the cancellation of Rita's Saturday night performance on their official website, with a message echoing their earlier sentiment: "[Rita] arrived in Hungary two days ago, but today's concert in Debrecen will be canceled due to illness."
Fans have been sending their love and support to Rita online throughout the weekend. This setback follows her stellar performance at the As Young As Vilnius festival in Lithuania just this past Thursday.
Rita herself took to social media to reflect on her Lithuanian gig, telling her fans: "Lithuania you blew my mind! 50k people, in the pouring rain, I appreciate every single one of you and you brought the ENERGY. SO happy I got to headline the As You As Vilnius festival, an absolute honour."
Looking ahead, Rita is expected to hit the stage again in a few weeks. Her website indicates that she's set to perform at the Lovestream Festival in Vajnory, Slovakia, on August 16, where she'll join other big names like 50 Cent, Macklemore, and Chase and Status.
