HOOVERSON HEIGHTS, W.Va. (WTRF) — Brooke County Emergency Management held its Project Lifesaver training course this weekend.

Project Lifesaver is a program that utilizes specially designed transmitters and radio frequencies to locate individuals with Alzheimer’s, Dementia, Autism, or Down’s Syndrome who have wandered away from their safe place.

Lectures and demonstrations paired with hands-on activities gave participants an in-depth understanding of the device and its purpose.

“We have four receivers here in Brooke County and what we can do is that if that individual wanders off, we can take those receivers out, set them to a specific frequency, and then use those to direct us towards the person that has wandered.”

Jeff Luck, deputy director for Brooke County Emergency Management and EMS

Luck says he is happy to have a program that not only keeps people safe but helps ease the minds of families throughout the area.
