The first viral moment of the 2024 Summer Olympics has arrived—and it involves a Speedo.

Following a preliminary race in the 100-meter women’s breaststroke on Sunday, July 28, fans noticed that U.S. swimmer Emma Weber lost one of her swim caps in the pool while competing in the Paris La Defense Arena in Nanterre, France. As NBC Sports broadcasters explained, professional swimmers often wear multiple caps during competition just in case one falls off, as Weber’s did.

Before long, a man later identified as a lifeguard hurried over to the edge of the pool, wearing nothing but a colorful—and quite small—swimsuit. Without hesitation, he dove into the pool, retrieved the cap from where it sat on the bottom and hurried back out.

NBC’s official Olympics and Paralympics account on X , formerly Twitter, later shared a clip of the rescue on the social media platform while jokingly asking, “Who do you call when a swim cap falls in the pool? ‘BOB THE CAP CATCHER.’ 😂.”

According to CNN , the man doesn’t want his real name to be released because he wants to be able to focus on his work as the Olympics continue in the days ahead. But that didn’t stop fans from sharing his new nickname far and wide while praising his “heroic” actions.

A TikTok user declared, "I mean this is ✨ICONIC✨."

“He’s an icon he’s a legend he is the moment,” one person tweeted. NBC’s X account agreed, declaring that “Bob the Cap Catcher” has “Main character energy.”

“Thank you for your service, Bob,” the 2028 Summer Olympics’ official account tweeted.

“This King is an automatic Olympic Gold Medalist,” one X user declared.

“Not all hero's wear capes!” one person pointed out.

“And just like that, he will forever be remembered #Hero,” an X user said while another called “Bob” the “hero we deserve.”

“Been waiting his whole life for this moment,” another fan guessed.
