CM Punk and Roxanne Perez update fans on the much-anticipated return of legend AJ Lee.
SummerSlam Is Always Full Of Surprises, But This Year It Might Bring The Biggest Surprise Of The Decade: The Return Of AJ Lee!
AJ Lee quickly became a fan favorite when she burst onto the scene in 2011. She was unfortunately forced to retire from wrestling in 2015 after sustaining severe injuries to her spine. According to The Sportster , Lee told Renee Paquette on an episode of The Sessions that during her final matches, she had three herniated discs in her spine.
Ever since Lee’s retirement, fans have been dreaming of the day that Lee would make her triumphant return to the ring. And now, almost a decade after Lee’s retirement, it seems as though their dreams are going to come true.
Rumors of an AJ Lee return have been swirling around since May. According to Sportskeeda , things started heating up when Drew McIntyre, the mortal enemy of CM Punk, AJ Lee’s husband, publicly threatened Punk on the Pat McAfee Show , saying “I’ll tear you apart physically, and if I wasn’t married I’d take your girl too.” In early June, McIntyre insulted Lee yet again. According to Inside the Ropes , during the Title Challenge, McIntyre seemed to have successfully beaten Damian Priest. McIntyre had Priest pinned down, but the official was knocked out of the ring and was replaced by none other than CM Punk. Punk stopped counting in favor of giving McIntyre a double-fingered salute, cheating McIntyre out of the title! In a fit of rage, McIntyre beat up Punk , carried him into the ring, and removed his bracket that featured both the name of his wife (AJ Lee) and his dog Larry.
This series of insults caused fans to speculate that AJ Lee would make an appearance at Men’s Money in the Bank to put the Scottish Psychopath back into his place. Unfortunately for Lee’s fans, Lee didn’t end up making an appearance at Money in the Bank.
Fortunately for Lee’s fans, a recent statement by CM Punk offers a glimmer of hope.
According to PinkVilla , in the most recent episode of RAW, CM Punk revealed that he has been medically cleared to return to wrestling and will be facing Drew McIntyre in upcoming matches. Since his return to WWE, CM Punk has been spending time with NXT’s Roxanne Perez, who has spoken publicly about how both she and Punk want AJ Lee to return to the ring. Perez told Pro Wrestling Illustrated that wrestling AJ Lee would be “a dream match.” She went on to say “I try (to talk to CM Punk about convincing A.J. Lee to return) but he tells me that he’s doing the same thing. He’s trying to get her to come back; he’s pulling her in but I hope one day she decides to come back and have a match with me.”
In addition to the eagerly awaiting the return of a WWE legend after nearly a decade, fans are curious to see how Lee is incorporated into CM Punk’s existing storyline. Pinkvilla points out that, in addition to being married in real life, CM Punk and AJ Lee have been featured together in previous WWE storylines. Lee’s return will certainly add even more fuel to the fire of Punk and McIntyre’s rivalry, as Lee now has her own score to settle with the Scottish Psychopath.
PinkVilla reports that, as of now, AJ Lee is rumored to make an appearance at SummerSlam, an event known for big surprises. SummerSlam will also be CM Punk’s second return after spending the past six months out of the ring due to a tricep injury. It will certainly be exciting to see the husband and wife duo make their grand comebacks together.

Though there is no way to guarantee if or when AJ Lee will be making her grand return, one thing is for certain: SummerSlam 2024 is going to be exciting. Roman Reigns will be returning, CM Punk will be returning, and maybe, just maybe, so will AJ Lee.
