The United States is in a race to bring home as many medals as possible. They are currently in first place on the Olympic leaderboard with nine and just received their second gold medal, as Torri Huske won the first individual gold medal for the USA at the Paris Olympics in the 100-meter butterfly. Both gold medals have now come from swimming for the U.S.

Huske had a heartbreaking ending in 2021 in Tokyo and looked to bounce back this summer, and she did just that. She chased down fellow American Gretchen Walsh in the competition and won by a slim margin of 0.04 seconds.

In 2021, that heartbreak was by 0.01 seconds. She was inches away from placing in the top three and receiving a medal, yet didn't get it done in that moment. Now, that gold medal can never be taken away from her.

Walsh finished with silver, putting the United States with the top two placers in the competition. Walsh didn't sugarcoat her happiness for Huske.

"Seeing the 1-2 up there, though, was amazing. I'm so proud of Terri. I'm proud of myself. I think that was what America needed and wanted. And it was a really special moment that we shared up there on the podium." Walsh said.

A surreal moment for Torri Huske just came to fruition, and she earned every bit of it with an incredible performance for herself and the United States.
