    Sophia Smith Scores Twice In USWNT Olympics Win Over Germany

    U.S. Women's National Soccer Team forward Sophia Smith scored two goals and assisted on another to Mallory Swanson during a 4-1 win against Germany in a Group B stage match at the 2024 Paris Olympics on Sunday (July 28).

    Smith scored in the 11th minute on an assist by Trinity Rodman to give the Americans their first goal and a 1-0 lead. Germany tied the match at 1-1 in the 22nd minute before Smith assisted Swanson's goal in the 26th minute.

    Smith scored again in the 44th minute to extend the United States' lead before exiting the game late in the second half. Lynn Williams , who replaced Smith, provided the final goal for the Americans in the 89th minute.

    The USWNT had previously defeated Zambia, 3-0, in a pre-opening ceremony Group B match last Thursday (July 25).
