Lady Gaga's Olympics performance was actually not live but pre-recorded due to concerns for her safety.

The 38-year-old superstar delivered 'Mon Truc En Plumes' on a picturesque staircase by the Seine River in Paris, yet it turns out the show wasn't as spontaneous as it appeared. Maud le Pladec, the creative mind behind the choreography for both the Olympics and Paralympics opening ceremonies, spilled the beans to Variety about the change in plans.

Maud disclosed: "Unfortunately, it was the only [performance] that, for safety reasons, we had to pre-record late in the afternoon, once we knew for sure that it was going to rain - we had minute-by-minute updates, we had never watched the weather forecast so closely in our lives."

She continued, detailing the precarious conditions: "We assessed that it was going to be too dangerous for performers, even with a few drops of rain. [Gaga] wanted to do it absolutely so we preferred to pre-record it rather than cancel it."

According to Maud, the live act would have been impossible under the inclement weather: "The soil would have been slippery. She was wearing heels, very near the water, there were stairs ... We had to be extremely cautious."

However, the fact that the performance was pre-recorded makes the numerous faux pas even more confusing. During the performance, one of the dancers slipped down the staircase. Meanwhile, viewers in the UK also struggled with sound issues. "A real pity the sound quality is so bad. #Olympics", another put: "@BBCSport Is it just me or is the sound mix on the @BBCOlympics coverage abysmal? I keep trying to adjust my tv sound settings but it doesn't seem to be helping. #Olympics"

Additionally, fans expressed their frustrations over Lady Gaga singing French on X. "Lady Gaga, known famously for her Parisian roots, opens #Paris2024 with some migraine-inducing French song," one wrote.

One fan questioned the decision to pick Gaga for this performance: "No French performer available? Seems a little odd." Another agreed saying: "Gorgeous, but I still don't understand why. Wish @zaz_official was singing Sous le ciel de Paris with @pabloalboran," referencing preferred French artists. "What was that? " Someone else bluntly inquired: "Where are the French artists? Lol."

After the broadcast, Gaga took to her social media platforms to express how much she enjoyed the experience.

Taking to Instagram, she shared: "I feel so completely grateful to have been asked to open the Paris @Olympics 2024 this year. I am also humbled to be asked by the Olympics organizing committee to sing such a special French song-a song to honor the French people and their tremendous history of art, music, and theatre. This song was sung by Zizi Jeanmaire, born in Paris a French ballerina, she famously sang "Mon Truc en Plumes" in 1961. The title means "My Thing with Feathers. " And this is not the first time we've crossed paths. Zizi starred in Cole Porter's musical "Anything Goes" which was my first jazz release. (sic)".
