(FREMONT COUNTY, Colo.) — The 15th Annual Royal Gorge Whitewater Festival made waves on Friday, July 26, and Saturday, July 27, giving locals the chance to dive into water festivities for people of all skill levels at Centennial Park.

There were kayak races, a floatie rodeo, a rafting slalom event, a kid’s surfing competition, and more. Another crowd favorite was the “Build Your Own Boat” race, where groups and organizations raced down the river in their hand-made rafts.

A southern colorado 4th grader stole the show with his 3rd place finish in the surfing competition. Rocky Stone described his experince, saying, “I only got two chances, so the first chance I stayed on there for like a minute. So I hopped and then you can… turn your board around. But I just did some hops and then there was a huge ramp of water, so then I went up that and then I fell on my back and floated down.”
