The 2024 Paris Olympics have several highly-anticipated swimming events slated for Monday. The women's 400-meter individual medley final is one of the headlining events and it gets underway at 2:30 p.m. ET. Canada's Summer McIntosh is the clear favorite at -950. Among those expected to challenge are Katie Grimes (+1400) of the United States, Freya Colbert of Great Britain (+2300) and Vivien Jackl of Hungary (+2900).

As for the women's 100-meter breaststroke, Tang Qianting of China is the favorite at -220. American Lilly King is second at +420. The medal event is scheduled for Monday at 3:25 p.m. ET. Before locking in any 2024 Summer Olympics picks on those events or others, you need to see what SportsLine Olympic insider Mike Tierney has to say .

A national sportswriter whose work appears in The New York Times and Los Angeles Times, Tierney has covered nine Olympic Games in person. At Rio in 2016, Tierney profited big-time. He told readers to bet over on Team USA's gold medal count (41.5) and over on Team USA's overall medal count (102.5). The result? 46 golds, 121 medals and two easy cashes. Then, at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, Tierney hit two of his three predictions: Germany (+200) to win the most gold medals and the United States winning under 10.5 gold medals (+110). Anybody following has seen some big returns.

Now, Tierney has broken down the 2024 Olympics from every possible angle and revealed his best bets for Monday, July 29. You can visit SportsLine now to see his 2024 Summer Olympics picks .

Top 2024 Paris Olympics picks for July 29

Tierney is backing Australian Mollie O'Callaghan (+145) instead of the favorite in Aussie teammate Ariarne Titmus (-150) in the women's 200-meter freestyle, which is scheduled to begin at 3:48 p.m. ET. The expert does not see much difference between the two and doesn't believe the gap in odds should be as big as they are. Both O'Callaghan and Titmus have dominated the competition leading up to the Olympics.

"Titmus, at -150, holds the world record -- which she seized from O'Callaghan," Tierney told SportsLine. "Their best clockings were superior by more than a second to everyone else, so this race builds down to an apparent duel. They are not separated as much as the odds suggest."
