Simone Biles and LeBron James were at the forefront of Team USA's dominant performance across several sports during Day Two of the 2024 Paris Olympics on Sunday (July 28).

Biles, 27, the most decorated American gymnast in history, posted the highest all-around score through three gymnastics subdivisions at 59.566, despite dealing with an apparent lingering leg injury. The four-time Olympic gold medalist briefly left the floor with USA team doctor Marcia Faustin after her opening beam routine, but returned shortly after and scored a 14.733 on her floor exercise routine.

Biles' led Team USA to a combined score of 172.296 points, with teammates Suni Lee (56.132) and Jordan Chiles (56.065) finishing second and third, respectively.

James, 39, a two-time Olympic gold medalist (2008 Beijing, 2012 London) and one-time bronze medalist (2004 Athens) led the USA Men's Basketball team to a 110-84 win in their opening Group C game against Serbia, finished with 21 points (9-13 shooting), nine assists and seven rebounds. Kevin Durant , the all-time leading scorer in Olympic play, recorded a game-high 23 points.

American swimmers Torri Huske and Gretchen Walsh finished first and second, respectively, in the women's 100-meter butterfly final. Huske, 21, was timed at 55.59 seconds, edging Walsh's score by 0.04.

The women's 100-meter butterfly took place after French swimmer Léon Marchand set a new Olympic record, winning gold in the men's 400-meter individual medley minutes prior. Marchand, 22, was clocked at 4:02.95, breaking the record previously set by American Michael Phelps , the most decorated swimmer in history, at the 2008 Beijing Games, to win his first Olympic gold medal of his career. The French swimmer had previously broken Phelps' Olympic record, which stood as the official world record for nearly 15 years, at the 2023 World Championships.

The U.S. Women's National Soccer Team advanced to the knockout stage following a 4-1 win against Germany in a Group B match. Forward Sophia Smith scored two goals and assisted on another to Mallory Swanson during the victory.

Lee Kiefer , who won gold in women's foil fencing at the pandemic-delayed Tokyo Olympics in 2021, defeated teammate Lauren Scruggs to retain her title. Kiefer, 30, who became the first American to win Olympic gold back-to-back in foil, and Scruggs, 21, were the first two Americans to win gold and silver and, along with Canadian Eleanor Harvey , who won the bronze medal, were the first non-European Olympic podium in the sport's history.

Team USA currently leads all nations with 12 total medals, including three gold medals, which is tied with host nation France and trails only Japan and Australia, which are tied at four.
