Umtanum Canyon Fire now 100% contained

Umtanum, WASH. -- Updated at 7:00 p.m.: The fire is 100% contained at 410 acres per the National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC). The remaining Level 1 evacuations were lifted earlier today & SR-821 is open. This’ll likely be the final update.

Updated at 5:45 p.m.: The Umtanum Canyon Fire is now 326 and 70% contained.

The Umtanum Canyon Fire started on Saturday, July 27th, 2024, off of Canyon Rd in southern Kittitas County, WA. Below is a list of up to date information as of Sunday, July 28th at 5:45 p.m.

Acreage: 326

Containment: 70%

Level 1 (GET READY) Evacuations:

-All areas south of milepost 21: including any residences, recreational areas and campgrounds

Road Closures: WA-821 will remain closed at Big Horn Rec Area on the north and Umtanum Rec area on the south until further notice.
