In a vibrant display of community spirit and athleticism, the South Bend Police Department hosted its inaugural Community Track and Field Showcase at LaSalle Academy. This new summer camp event featured youth track teams from South Bend and Mishawaka, coming together to celebrate sports and build community connections.

The showcase saw participants from across the region form two teams that engaged in a friendly scrimmage. This event not only spotlighted local talent but also emphasized the importance of fostering positive relationships between the police department, the community, and young athletes.

South Bend Police Officer Georgia Wells expressed enthusiasm about the event’s success and future prospects: “There will definitely be another one next year, and it will be even bigger, larger, and greater. This is something we plan to continue annually, strengthening our ties with the community, other track teams, and local police departments.”

The showcase featured a range of track and field events, including sprinting, long jumps, discus, and shot put, providing a platform for young athletes to showcase their skills and enjoy the thrill of competition.

Plans are already underway for next year's event, promising an even more expansive and engaging experience for the community.
