South Bend is gearing up for significant traffic adjustments starting Monday, July 29, due to ongoing maintenance and construction projects. These restrictions, weather permitting, are set to impact Cleveland Road and Washington Street.

On Cleveland Road, from Portage Avenue to Shellbark Avenue, traffic will be reduced to two lanes to accommodate NIPSCO’s gas main work related to their new substation. Eastbound lanes will be reconfigured to maintain two-way traffic flow. This phase of work is expected to continue until Friday, August 16.

Meanwhile, Washington Street will be closed from Main Street to Lafayette Boulevard for crane operations related to the Liberty Tower construction. Motorists are advised to use Colfax Avenue via Lafayette Boulevard and Main Street as the detour route. Washington Street is anticipated to reopen by Friday, August 2, weather permitting.

These changes are part of South Bend’s efforts to upgrade infrastructure and support ongoing development projects, and they are expected to temporarily disrupt traffic patterns in these key areas.
