    2024 high school football practice opens Monday in Brevard County

    High school football practice for the 2024 season officially opens in Brevard County on Monday for 16 FHSAA programs and two eight-man teams.

    FLORIDA TODAY reporters and photographers will spread out across the area to cover the opening. Watch for updates at 321preps.com and @321preps on Instagram and X, throughout the day.

    Cocoa High opens as a defending state champion, though Class 2S is gone following FHSAA legislation to redesign alignment . Receiver Jayvan Boggs, the FLORIDA TODAY Offensive Football Player of the Year for 2023, returns for his senior season.

    Six schools sport new varsity head coaches: Anthony Gulla , interim at Viera High last year, moved into the permanent role; Mitchell Brown at Palm Bay ; former Pirates coach Jake Owens returned to Space Coast; Willie Tillman at MCC; athletic director Ted Kimmey at Cocoa Beach; and Tyrone Giscombe with Rockledge.

    Teams can practice with contact beginning Saturday, and preseason games are scheduled for Aug. 17. The 2024 regular season begins on Aug. 23.
