After a long summer of workouts, recruiting visits and 7-on-7 action across the state of Alabama. Fall practices for high school football begins Aug. 5 with kickoff classics beginning Aug. 22-23.

With the many talented athletes in the Montgomery-area here's a list of quarterbacks to keep an eye out for in the 2024 football season.

Coaching staffs: For consideration, please send your stats to sports@montgomeryadvertiser.com .

    Tyler Johnson

    Wetumpka, Sr.

Analysis: Listed as 6-foot-3, Johnson made a lot of noise this summer during 7-on-7 play. The Indians offense averaged 26.8 points per game under quarterback Nate Rogers last season. Now led by Johnson under center, Wetumpka looks to keep the offensive momentum going and contend for a region and state title.

    Landon Jones

    Billingsley, Sr.

Analysis: Last season Jones finished with 1,806 passing yards and 20 touchdowns. He ended the year with 30 total touchdowns.

    Bryson Mcgrew

    Percy Julian, Sr.

Analysis: Mcgrew gained a lot of traction this offseason dazzling scouts at several camps. He finished with 15 passing touchdowns and 1,849 yards through the air last season. He added three rushing touchdowns to his season stats that he got in a victory over Prattville.

    Thompson McNees

    Trinity, Sr .

Analysis: Despite not starting last season, McNees gave us flashes of what’s coming. In back-to-back games against Marbury and Sumter Central he finished with three touchdowns for the Wildcats. Now in position to start this fall, Trinity looks to go back to the postseason with a different end result.

    Cason Myers

    Pike Road, So

Analysis: Myers finished with 2,140 yards with 15 touchdowns in his first season with the Patriots. With major DI programs already on his radar, Myers will be a prospect to watch for years to come.

    Chase Perry

    Saint James, Jr.

Analysis: After sitting behind four-star prospect KJ Jackson the last seasons, Perry will get nod as the starter this fall for the Trojans. Listed as 6-foot-1, Perry made noise at several camps and 7-on-7 this offseason. With the trust from his teammates and coaches, Perry is in for a huge year with this Trojans group.

    Kingston Preyear

    Montgomery Catholic, Fr.

Analysis: Entering his first season with Knights, there is huge upside to this young quarterback. Listed as 6-foot-3, Preyear is coming to a loaded Catholic team looking to repeat as state champions. With praise already from coaches and scouts around the area, Preyear will be highly touted prospect in the River Region this fall.

    Terrell Russell Jr.

    Carver, Sr.

Analysis: After throwing 25 passing touchdowns last season, there is huge buzz surrounding Russell after receiving multiple college offers during the offseason. Now with a loaded 2024 roster, Russell has all the intangibles to lead this Wolverine group to a deep postseason run.

    Christian Snipes

    Alabama Christian, Jr.

Analysis: Listed at 6-foot-2, the duo of Snipes and running back AC Walters are expected to turn heads this fall with the Eagles. After playing mostly on defense last year, Snipes will give ACA a much larger look under center.

    David Whisenhunt

    Montgomery Academy, Jr.

Analysis: With Montgomery Academy searching for its quarterback of the future, Whisenhunt is a player competing for that starting spot. Showcasing his athletic abilities on defense last season at linebacker and safety, a move to quarterback would not be surprising.
