JACKSON TWP. − Grocery Outlet , a California-based discount grocer, has leased space in Belden Village Commons for its first location in Stark County.

Grocery Outlet Inc. entered the lease on July 1 with the Pittsburgh-based Glimcher Group, owner of the plaza, according to Stark County Recorder's Office records. It's for 4844 Everhard Road NW ― formerly occupied by Tuesday Morning until the company went out of business in 2023.

“Our core business is grocery-anchored strip centers," said Michael Moidel, chief operating officer at the Glimcher Group. "It’s what we like. It’s our forte."

The company has been in contact with Grocery Outlet for a few years, Moidel said. This will be the first outlet at a plaza owned by the Glimcher Group, but he's working on deals for locations in West Virginia.

The facade was renovated for the east side of the plaza, where Hobby Lobby and Ollie's Bargain Outlet are located. Now the Glimcher Group is doing the same for the future Grocery Outlet on the west side.

“We are supposed to have that done by the end of October and deliver them the space, but they have interior work to do yet," Moidel said.

He expects Grocery Outlet to start interior work before the exterior is finished but did not know its timeline for opening. The lease is for 12 years.

Grocery Outlet was ranked second in the nation by a MarketForce study for grocers that offer the most value for money, according to the U.S. News & World Report . In Ohio, there are stores in Cincinnati, which opened earlier this year, and Boardman.

The company responded to The Canton Repository's request for comment with a prepared statement: "Grocery Outlet is actively looking for sites in Ohio but has no specific sites to confirm at this time. Potential store openings depend on a variety of factors for any individual site location."
