It’s hard to know how to handle, well, anything in a heatwave. Between managing humidity and scorching temperatures, we all pretty much expect to be frizzy-haired, sweat-drenched messes until the thermometer drops by a few degrees.

While packing for a wedding where the temperature was projected to be around 110 degrees, HuffPost senior reporter Lydia O’Connor was horrified to discover that she had run out of her go-to Laura Mercier translucent powder. Having read good things about the $8 e.l.f. Halo Soft Glow Focus setting powder on Reddit, she decided to try the affordable product in light pink , hoping it would save the day.

“I snagged this e.l.f. powder at the drugstore on a whim the day before leaving for a wedding I was in where I’d be doing my own makeup,” O’Connor said. “I’d just run out of my usual go-to, the much pricier Laura Mercier translucent powder, and had heard great things about the e.l.f. powder as a budget option on Reddit.”

Now that she has discovered this powder, O’Connor says she’ll be sticking to it going forward. “I like a dewier makeup look, and this one really sets my makeup and cuts any unwanted shininess without compromising my glow,” she said.  “It was 110 degrees during the wedding, and someone came up to me afterward and told me I was the least sweaty-looking bridesmaid!”

This loose, light setting powder boasts a silky texture that leaves skin glowy but not shiny. Made with 100% vegan, cruelty-free ingredients, this formula also blurs the appearance of fine lines and pores while leaving the skin feeling weightless — and apparently, not at all sweaty, even in sky-high temperatures.

Available in light pink, light, medium, and deep, the powder has nearly 8,000 five-star reviews on Amazon — with one reviewer saying this powder lasted all day in 98-degree weather in New York City, while another said it felt “smooth and satiny, lasted all day” and that there was no creasing in the eye area.

While makeup is always a matter of preference, it’s safe to say that if you’re looking for an inexpensive drugstore pick with high-quality ingredients that will get the job done — especially in a heatwave — you can’t go wrong with this one.
