Monday's Weather Headline: A few spotty showers are all that's left with the Sun returning and hazy skies later. The tropics are also beginning to churn... Read on for more details.

What we're tracking: High pressure officially returns over Texas today growing in size by later this week bringing a heat wave to most of the country by the weekend. Sinking high pressure will dry the skies out with plentiful sunshine expected this week. However, in the background in will be both very humid and hazy at times. Heavy rainwater leftover in our soil from last week will allow for humidity to remain very high even during the mid afternoon, bringing heat indices as high as 105-107 with air temps in low 90s. Midweek, a large plume of Saharan dust will arrive out of the Gulf providing hazy skies and likely some moderate unhealthy air quality. Some dust will be around on Tuesday and Friday, but heaviest dust activity will be Wednesday and Thursday. Later this week, an upper level low trough on the NW Coast will traverse east through the country. This will mostly clear out the dust with a few upper atmospheric fronts providing room for possible spotty showers again late this weekend. Tropical updates can be found below. Alert Days: NONE.

Tropics: Two tropical waves are currently traversing closely behind in the Atlantic. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is watching this set of tropical waves and has placed a combined 50% chance of tropical cyclone formation within a week. Latest computer guidance suggests the two waves will converge and begin slowly traveling near or through the Caribbean islands on Thursday. However, that's right when computers start to disagree on its next path. With Debby next up on the list, about half of the models take Debby east of Florida riding up the East Coast and about the other half suggest Debby will continue through the Caribbean islands and strengthen before making landfall also near Florida, but on Florida's West Coast. The big driving factor of its direction is the BErmuda high pressure system. Either way, current guidance and NHC details park this tropical system closer to Florida, bringing if anything high rip current risks. Read more details on the NHC's website here .

Next 24 hours: Spotty showers remain possible both today and tomorrow. Chances both days are at 20%. If you see a shower, it should be moderate at best bringing max rain totals up to 0.5-0.75 inches. Partly cloudy skies ensue in the background today decreasing to mostly sunny skies late this afternoon and through most of tomorrow. Highs in the Crossroads both days between the upper 80s and low 90s. However, dew points in the upper 70s during the midday will bring heat indices as high as 105-107 for some both days. Lows in the upper 70s tonight and tomorrow night.

Extended forecast: Highs very slowly begin climbing this week back into the 90s with high pressure overhead. Lows very slowly dropping with skies clearing the overnights. Rain chances dwindle away by midweek but slightly rise by the weekend providing some hope, although I think we are ready for a break from the rain. See below for your 7 Day Crossroads forecast.
