Woman dies after collapsing on Virgin Australia flight in front of horrified passengers

A woman has died after collapsing in front of passengers on a flight in Australia .

The woman collapsed on the Virgin Australia flight from Brisbane to Melbourne at around 9.30am on Monday before the plane came in to land at Tullamarine Airport at around 10.15am.

The Sun reports that staff on the plane rushed to perform CPR on the woman and the flight was given priority landing to land in Melbourne .

She was taken off the plane with emergency services waiting on the tarmac but she could not be saved.

It is understood that the death is not being treated as suspicious.

A Virgin Australia spokesperson told News Corp Australia's NewsWire: “Virgin Australia can confirm a medical emergency on board flight VA308 travelling from Brisbane to Melbourne this morning."

Victoria Police are preparing a report for the coroner to establish what happened on the flight.

The woman’s identity remains unclear.

It comes two months after a British man died following severe turbulence on board a Singapore Airlines flight from Heathrow.

Geoffrey Kitchen, 73, died from a suspected heart attack after the plane experienced a sudden drop mid-air, plunging thousands of feet.

Neighbours said Mr Kitchen and his wife Linda were flying to start a six week “holiday of a lifetime” in South East Asia and Australia.

In January a passenger also died on a Jet2 flight on its way from Tenerife to Manchester.

Customers told the crew they were worried about a man who had not returned from the toilet.
