    THP: Driver cited after head-on crash leads to closure on Highway 109 in Wilson County

    WILSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) said improper passing led to a brief closure on Highway 109 Monday morning in Wilson County.

    According to a crash report, the collision happened in the 8700 block of Highway 109 around 6:30 a.m. on Monday, July 29.

    The Wilson County Sheriff’s Office reported a significant amount of gas and oil spilled onto the roadway and both northbound lanes were blocked. The roadway fully reopened to traffic before 8 a.m.

    A crash report provided by THP revealed what led to the closure. Officials said an 18-year-old driver of a 2007 Mitsubishi Raider was traveling north on the highway and attempted to pass traffic in the left turn lane.

    However, the Mitsubishi veered into oncoming traffic and collided into a 2016 Ram 1500.

    Both drivers were injured in the crash, according to THP. The 18-year-old was cited for improper passing.

    Motorists were asked to avoid the area Monday morning. No additional information was immediately released.
