Everything Still to Come in One Piece’s Egghead Island Anime Arc
By Dave Aubrey,
The most recent episodes of One Piece have been earth-shaking, with Shanks wiping Captain Kid’s crew off the map, followed by Koby on Hachinosu, and his attempted escape. Scenes like these are why One Piece is one of the most exciting manga stories currently running, and long-time One Piece fans will be blown away by some of the upcoming developments.
If you’re desperate to know what’s in store for the future of the One Piece anime, we’re breaking down the story beats of the upcoming episodes. There will be spoilers ahead, but we won’t spoil key moments or plot points. We also can’t predict specifically how many episodes each story arc will comprise of, since the story pacing in the anime can be very different from the manga.
With all of that in mind, read on for everything that’s coming in the future of the One Piece anime during the Egghead Island arc.
This story arc has already begun as of the most recent episode, but it involves Garp arriving at Hachinosu with the Sword members to break Koby out. This will, of course, lead to confrontations with Blachbeard’s crew that are present on the island, including Kuzan.
This story arc takes place over several chapters in the manga, so we can expect this to be the anime’s main focus for a few weeks. But before it climaxes, we’ll have yet another important story arc…
Sabo in Marijoa Flashback
After a chapter catching up with the Cross Guild, we move on to Sabo arriving in the Kamabaka Queendom. Sabo then recalls the full story of what he witnessed in Marijoa, including the circumstances around the death of King Cobra, and how he escaped with his life intact. It’ll also catch us up on how several other characters escaped the Reverie, like Jewelry Bonney, Princess Vivi, and Wapol.
This story arc is absolutely packed with lore drops and info, including the full names and roles of all of the Five Elders, and it culminates with the reveal of one of the Holy Knights. When this is all over, we’ll return to see the climax at Hachinosu.
Marines Invade Egghead Island
This particular section of the story has Kizaru and his Marine fleet land on Egghead alongside St. Jay Garcia Saturn, of course, but this is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to surprise appearances on Egghead. But not only that – Kuma took off from Kamabaka Queendom some time ago and begun climbing the Red Line, and we’ll also be seeing where he’s going.
Kizaru and the Marines won’t find invading Egghead as easy as they might think, as Vegapunk has the Pacifista fleet and the Straw Hat Pirates on his side. Just as things seem like they’re going to be alright, Saturn makes landfall, and triggers Bonney to recall all of Kuma’s memories that she saw the night before.
Kuma’s Backstory
Possibly one of the most heartbreaking flashbacks in the history of One Piece, it recounts almost the entirety of Kuma’s life, from birth, through childhood, adolescence, and adulthood where he finds himself as a commander in Dragon’s Revolutionary Army. It involves his family, his friends, his loved ones, and how he dedicated himself to being Bonney’s father, even if it earned him the title “Tyrant.”
Escape from Egghead Island
The escape is the final segment of the Egghead Island story arc, and it’s just about to come to a close in the next few manga chapters (we assume). This is all about fighting off the powerful foes that are on Egghead Island so that Luffy and his friends can escape intact – which is easier said than done. The task is to escape with Dr. Vegapunk and his remaining satellites intact, but the enemy is pulling out all of the stops, and it might be too much even for Gear 5 Luffy. No spoilers, but this will go down as one of the greatest arcs in the history of One Piece.
