[1] Mistakenly released inmate back in custody, Albuquerque police say – Desiree Sanchez, who was released by mistake from MDC last week, is back in custody. APD says Sanchez called police to turn herself in. Around 6 p.m. Sunday, officers took Sanchez into custody near Rio Grande and Indian School. Sanchez was the third inmate mistakenly released in July.

[2] Gov. Lujan Grisham featured on ‘Face the Nation’ before upcoming town halls – New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham went on CBS’s “Face the Nation” speaking on the southern border. The governor will be hosting town hall meetings in Albuquerque and Española over the next few days, where she will hear issues New Mexicans have on public safety.

[3] Sunnier, hotter, & drier weather ahead for New Mexico – As temperatures rise into the upper 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, and lower triple digits across the region, some moisture in the air, along with the daytime heating, will lead to some afternoon rainfall, especially in the Gila National Forest and parts of the mountain ranges of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains to the Sacramento Mountains. And potentially around the northern Rio Grande Valley.

[4] Advocates push for electric school bus funding in New Mexico – Advocates are urging state lawmakers to make it easier for New Mexico school districts to switch from diesel to electric school buses. In their pitch to the Legislative Transportation Infrastructure Revenue Subcommittee, they say going electric keeps kids away from harmful chemicals in diesel and reduces greenhouse gas emissions. Presenters claimed in the long run, school districts will save money in fuel and maintenance costs.

[5] First weekend of Ruidoso Downs races in Albuquerque wraps up – This weekend was the first of horse races in Albuquerque following the Salt and South Fork fires and major flooding. For about a month, the Ruidoso Downs racing season will be happening at the Downs at Albuquerque. Ruidoso Downs races will continue until Labor Day, capping off with the All-American Futurity.
