It was a close race, but in the end the winner was clear.

Monroe County 's favorite county fair food is... Vinegar fries!

Capturing over 20% of the vote, these spud-tacular fair-food delights edged out the fabled funnel cake for the top spot. Funnel cakes raked in 18.71% of the votes. Steak bites, corn dogs and butterfly chips round out the top five delicacies as deleted by readers of The Monroe News.

The Monroe News conducted the informal poll to kick off this year's Monroe County Fair, July 28, which continues all week long. You can find out more about the fair by checking out our fair guide . We asked our Facebook readers to nominate their favorite fair treats, then we put together a poll to crown a champion fair food.

Two days later, the votes were tallied and a winner was crowned. Hats off to those golden fried delights!
